All our livestock were washed away by the floods

Asayita woreda was heavily impacted by flash flooding between April and May 2021, displacing over 200,000 people in the area.
It is bordered on the south by Afambo, on the west by Dubti, on the north by the Awash river which separates it from Elidar, and on the east by Djibouti.

It has been forecasted as of July 2022, that heavy rains are expected in the highland regions, namely Tigray and Amhara. Due to excess rain water entering the Awash river, filling the dams and the releasing of the dams which results in flash flooding through this woreda as flood water rushes through. When the floods took hold last time, flood waters swallowed agricultural land, all the way to the base of the mountains, river banks broke, cattles were lost while women and children were placed high up on trees. Some were airlifted, most climbed to higher ground.
