What does the world look like through the eyes of a child who has lost everything?

In refugee camps and in forgotten corners of the world, there are children who have seen more in their short lives than most of us ever will. War, displacement, hunger, grief. These stories rarely make headlines. And when they do, they're often told by others, filtered, politicised, distant.

But what if we handed the camera to the child?

Dreaming Big With Cameras invites children to tell their own stories. Not with words that may be too painful to speak, but with images that reveal truth, dignity, and hope.

This is more than a photography workshop. It’s a lifeline. A safe space. A moment of joy. A declaration: “I see. I exist. I matter.”

With just 10–20 compact cameras, we work in partnership with grassroots organisations to run visual storytelling workshops for refugee and marginalised children. These children, many of whom have experienced deep trauma, are given the tools to see their world and themselves, in a new light.

You can help power their vision.

Many of our current cameras are outdated or broken. We're seeking to replace them with simple, durable point-and-shoot models, nothing fancy, just something that works. Each camera costs $200–$300. And with every one placed in a child’s hands, a door opens.

At the end of each workshop, the children exhibit their photographs. Their faces light up as strangers see them not as victims, but as creators. As storytellers. As artists.

Every contribution to Dreaming Big With Cameras helps bring light, laughter, and creativity into the lives of children who have faced unimaginable hardship.

Funds are used where they matter most:
– To update and replace cameras when needed
– To leave cameras behind with trusted grassroots partners, so children can continue creating after the workshop ends
– To fund simple excursions or adventures rare opportunities for children to explore beyond their daily reality
– To provide a nourishing meal after each workshop, shared in community
– To support the final exhibition of the children’s work, a powerful moment of pride and visibility
– To cover small, urgent needs that may arise, such as helping a struggling family

What funds are never used for:

❌ Travel or accommodation
❌ Administrative overheads
