Interview with Esha Mohammed - Elidar
Esha's daily life comprises of the usual tasks undertaken by women in this part of the world. She prepares meals, collects water, takes the animals out to graze and the like.
Due to the drought, they have sold the majority of their surviving livestock which would otherwise have died on their hands. They were sold at a very cheap price as their market value were linked to their body weight and most of the shoats had lost a lot of weight during this time. Currently they are experiencing a shortage of food and water, to the point where they are only able to provide a single meal a day. "We are starving." Water is only available from the woreda centre, where there is only one pipe for more than 10,000 people. There just isn't enough especially when ground water is drying up also.
