Galata Bridge, Turkey
Treasures littered from North to South
In the silverlight it seemed
Jewels abound ...
Their little silvered heads and bitty eyes
Though not amongst themselves
but with the balıkçı*
Whose lines feed from the Bosphorus
straddling the tides from Europe and Asia.
In the distant, a man commerced
Rabbits. Black and white.
"Make a wish", he lured
"Your future be told...on Galata bridge".
From the corner of my eye
Old Galata swayed
As the seas coaxed beneath it
The black rabbit shifted
My destiny divulged
An uncanny acquaintance
The mysterious bridge beholds
*balıkçı means fisherman in Turkish
