20 livestock remains alive from 300. This community is starving to death.
The road to Kori was long and arduous. It still astounds me how these communities would have arrived at a place so remote and grim, where water supplies are far away if at all available, where the land barely serves to sustain any form of life.
A handful of huts dotted this parched landscape. Mohammed Sabri 45yo, wife Ose Mohammed 40yo and their 7 children live here. They used to have more than 300 shoats but only 20 has survived the punishing drought which has threatened the survival of their community for almost a year.
Whilst they have lost 280 shoats, they have yet to lose any family members. That said, they are experiencing a high rate of malnutrition, especially worse in children, women and the elderly.
