Asayita Floods

Asayita Floods

In an interview with the Leader of the kebele, this particular community comprises mainly of women and children. There are 755 households. The current levels of the river is very low which makes it highly polluted and no consumable for livestock or people. The behaviour of the river has been unpredictable and abnormal for the past 3 to 4 years.

The locals believe that the natural flow of the river has been impacted by the nearby sugar factory but which is difficult to ascertain.

The most affected population from the previous floods have been women, children and disabled men, who were survived by getting them up on top of trees or evacuated by helicopters. It was believed they spent 1-2 days on tree tops. Houses and bridges were washed out, making transport out of the villages even more difficult.
