Where high rainfalls are expected in the highland areas, the river which is both narrow and shallow overflows and floods. The river flows at force when the dam breaks, bringing with it debris, tree branches, parts of washed out houses and bridges. These in turn break all the river walls and boundaries, resulting in floods throughout the villages and community, with a devastating impact on livestock and people.

Community elder, 40yo Haji Ahmed said that when the dam broke the last time, he was in the city. He sent word to his neighbours to help save his livestock but they were washed away. His home, village and every shelter was taken by the water. People climbed trees and other high places to save themselves.

He believed that raising the height of the bridge should enable transport out should a flood is to take hold. Completion of the main canal that was started by the plantation factory will also balance the flow of the water.
