Bentiu Town - Uganda is planning to release 2400m3 of water from Lake Victoria per second to reduce rising water levels in Uganda. The fear today is that water levels could overtake the current level of 13.5 m3. In 2020, water levels reached 13.5m3, up from 13.41 m3 in 1964. These floods from 2021 has continued to impact the population in Bentiu, displacing almost all of the town. Farmers can no longer cultivate but instead have turned to the likes of fishing. Others who are struggling to find food or aid have turned to eating water lilies, the fruits, roots etc. WAter lilies are only consumed in this part of the world should everything else be unavailable.
