Caught between Sudan and South Sudan, Abyei is a land claimed by both yet governed by neither. In this suspended no-man’s-land, only the UN flag flies. Its peacekeepers managing a fragile, uneasy calm under the shadow of oil, mines, and unresolved borders.
A Frontier Suspended documents life in a territory where maps blur and time stalls. Minefields line the villages, oil revenues fund political deadlock, and seasonal floods carry explosives into children's paths. Here, people farm, marry, mourn, and survive on contested soil, waiting for a referendum, recognition, or simply the next dry season.
Abyei’s story is not one of progress or peace, but of endurance in the face of indefinite limbo.
