SW Crisis - Buea - CDC Community Aid
Context:
Most of the community here worked for CDC banana plantations. Most of the community has not been paid properly for 6 years. They worked for 12 months last year but was only paid for 2. CDC employees were also being attacked by NSAGs as CDC is partly owned by the government. NSAGs purport that employees were supporting government initiatives by working for CDC and were attacking wrokers in plantations. Some wrokers were kidnapped, some had their limbs amputated. This resulted in the abandonment of plantations as workers were too frightened to go back to work. The Covid-19 crisis has also exacerbated the slow-down in production and sales, resulting in reduced demand and hence CDC's inability to pay salaries.
FAO assists these communities with hens (layers).

It was on the 24 August 2018. I heard the workers shout, Amba is here! Amba is here! I wantd to run but there was no way. I was blocked so I hid inside the office. I was a shop keeper." Somone tipped them off and before long, one of the Amba boys started to slap on the door to the office, finally breaking the door and finding her anad others hiding. Florence asked for forgiveness but was told that she will be taught "a better lesson" today as she has been warned before to not come to work and yet she is still coming to work. They dragged her outside, hitting her head with a machete. She clambered out and fell on the ground outside. As she was face down on the ground, the armed group canned her hard with the machette, against the side of her back. "I wanted to cry but he told me that if I shout, he will cut off my hand." She stayed quiet. As all these were happening, Florence could see the packing house on fire. Meanwhile a woman named Mirabe struggled towards her holding onto a finger that was semi attached. Another man had a deep wound in the side of his stomach.
