SW Crisis - Buea
Name: Wilba Shouslin 29yo
Single mother of 3 children
Wilba was a teacher by profession. Due to the NW/SW crisis, she has had to resign and stop teaching. She has come from an area called Kumbu.
in 2015/16, the crisis started in Kumbu. Wilba was pregnant with her first child then. She was with her husband then where she was teaching in a primary school and he was working in at the taxation office. His employment ceased due to the crisis. They found out that her husband was on the assasination list. Both the military and Amba were fighting, causing a lot of unrest. He escaped, leaving Wilba with their baby. Due to the nature of the crisis, Wilba's life also became in danger, being a teacher. So decided to stop teaching but was not able to sit idle. She worked within the healthcare industry instead but was then accused by the army of treating injured NSAGs. She found herself in a similar situation where she had to relinquish what she was doing. She escaped and met her husband in Bamenda.
Their relationship didn't last despite family intervention. He threw her out on 1 January 2022 on the basis that he was getting married in 2 weeks. She was pregnant with their third child at the time. She knew no one in Bamenda. She did not speak pigeon. She had two children, a third coming and was becoming a single mother. She was stranded with nothing, nothing over her head, two children, nothing. He did not leave her with anything to assist her or her children. "I was going down the drain, I was already gone."
"IRC came to my aid, like angels." They provided crockery, cooking utensils, water storage and money for education for her children as well as to settle debts that she owed. They were also provided with mosquito nets and roof over their heads.
She is living from hand to mouth. There is no one to care for the children and Wilba is not able to find work.
