NW Crisis - Bamenda CBHS

NW Crisis - Bamenda CBHS

Name: Utay Kekfani
Age:
Village: Oku
Mother of 2 (5 and 15yo)
Single parent
Utay had polio when she was a child. When she was 15, she had an accident that furthter damaged her legs. She was not able to walk easily and walking distances was laboured. The device she received has helped speed up her movements. She was living in Oku until the crisis hit and left the village in 2018 where militay and NSAGs were fighting and shooting. Due to her disablity, Utay wasn't able to run up the hill to escape like other people could. She is now living with her two children in Bamenda. Only the 5yo is currently going to school. "It is not easy here in Bamenda". It is not easy paying the rental. She has had to beg for money sometimes for the sake of survival. Back in the village, before the crisis hit, Utay ran a small stall. After the crisis in Bamenda, she tried doing the same but due to ill health, she has not been able to continue.

Utay's village in Oku is now desserted due to constant fighting that occurs unexpectedly as the separatist groups are still there, hence attracting retaliation from the military.
