Cameroon NW Crisis - Teacher Kidnapped and tortured

Cameroon NW Crisis - Teacher Kidnapped and tortured

Chriso 38yo (rename for fear of reprisal)
He was an Economics teacher at a government school in Bamenda.
Chrisso described as all having started as anglophone teachers were fighting for fairer treatment from the government. Anglophone teachers felt marginalised. Eg. books were largely written in French, communications from education board was written in French. Books and other communiques were written in French. French teachers sent into anglophone schools to teach, making it difficult for students to understand. Teachers were beaten by military forces during the protest. Government forces were brutal.

Chriso's accounts of what happened: "When the crisis started, I was in school. One evening, a gunman came into school and took 76 children, principal, discipline master and driver to unknown destination." Chrisso was part of this group. "They covered our faces and sent us into the bushes. It was in the night. That’s where they beat us with cut glass. Children were not harmed. Ransom was demanded."

Chriso has been jobless now for 5 years since the crisis first happened.
He has 4 children, 16, 12, 9 and 6 years of age. They are going to community schools. NSAGs have been targeting government schools. Children are going to school now without uniforms on. Community schools are anglophone oriented.

"To me this crisis will not end soon. It has gotten to a level where both parties are benefitting. Getting fat on the crisis.
It’s on us the common man."

He wants to teach again but for now is working as a social worker for one of the NGOs.
