Transit Centre 2, established after Transit centre 1 became overpopulated with refugees and returnees from Sudan due ot the conflict which erupted in April 2023. The population in TC2 is also significantly populated, people still streaming in at a near constant level. When I was there, small makeshift tents were pitched as the more permanent strucutres were already overfilled with multiple families per room. The Transit Centres were not designed for long term stays but rather a transit centre to assist refugees and returnees in their transit to their place of origin if they're a returnee or to Maban, a designated location for refugees. Many harbour hopes of returning to Sudan once the war subsides and hence have chosen to remain in the transit centres where food and medical aid is scarce. Others who have decided to relocate and reestablish themselves in South Sudan were being onboarded today - a group of returnees who will board a boat destined for Malakal, a 2 and a half day journey via the Nile and under immensely hot weather.
