At the port in Renk where returnees from Sudan will board a boat that will take about 600 passengers to Malakal before they continue their journey to other parts of the country. The onboarding process from the transit centre to the boat takes around 4 hours, under strenuous conditions in the hot Sudanese sun, esepcially for the elderly, women and children. The thing to note is even though many of these returnees' place of origin is South Sudan, many were either born in Sudan or were taken to Sudan when they were children and hardly identifies with South Sudan as their home. For them even though this is their ancestral land, they are having to start from scratch. Many returnees also harbour hopes of the war in Sudan easing so they can return.
