Since April 2023, the total number of inflows of refugees and returnees into South Sudan via various points of entry including Renk is nearly 700,000, about 163,000 households. The daily influx has reduced since its peak at the start of the Sudan war last year but numbers are still averaging at at least the 1,000 mark daily, most of whom are women and children. Men of fighting age were prevented from leaving Sudan at a point in time. Many of the families who have been in the Transit Centres have neither seen their husbands or know of their mortality since they'd left. From these numbers, about 300,000 have moved to areas of return. Most have decided to stay on in the Transit Centre in hope that the war will ease in Sudan and they can return. These include South Sudanese who were born in Sudan and had established their lives there.
