Tyre (Sour), Southern Lebanon - Turned into a ghost town
Tyre (Sour) is situated in Southern Lebanon, one of the oldest cities in the world that has been continuously inhabited for 4700 years. It was once a thriving modern day beach city, filled with tourists. Every inch of the beach would be covered with beach stalls and people! Businesses thrived. Remnants of beautiful stores and restaurants still stand amongst the rubble.
Driving through Tyre was both sad and exasperating for it is now a ghost town. Many residents have fled when initial evacuation orders were issued by the Israeli army. However there are those who have chosen to remain. Displacement is too challenging for the elderly. Some families do not want to resort to being displaced. Others fled and returned assuming when there was a gap between bombings that things may be on the improve, only to be proven wrong.
There were the constant humming of drones in the sky, unseen but always audible. Quite often fighter jets would create sonic booms that make one's bones shudder and have families running for shelter.
The number of airstrikes have escalated in recent days. On one particular day, the Israeli army bombed Tyre and further south of Lebanon 16 times over, causing massive panic and destruction!
This isn't a Hezbollah stronghold.
