Fishermen threatened with death - "Any movement in the water wil

"It is important that the world sees what is happening to the Lebanese people" says Sekmani, a fisherman in Tyre (Sour), Lebanon.

Tyre (Sour) is situated in Southern Lebanon, one of the oldest cities in the world, dating back to the Bronze age, that has been continuously inhabited for 4700 years. It was once a thriving modern day beach city, filled with tourists. Every inch of the beach would be covered with beach stalls and people! Businesses thrived. Remnants of beautiful stores and restaurants still stand amongst the rubble.

Most families have evacuated Tyre. Those with young children especially have left the city as the sounds of explosions and bombs are unnecessarily stressful for them. That said many families remain as their hardwork, businesses, land and lives are tied to this city. On the port side of Tyre, boats small and large remained anchored. Fishermen and beach goers have been issued death threats by the Israeli army a few weeks before this interview. Sekmani has his fluka (small boat) here that he uses for fishing. He is a fisherman by trade. "Right now [Israe]l has banned fishermen from sailing and fishing. "The Israeli army has said that any movement in the water will be a target." Where will we get our food from? Where will we get our income?" Right now, the community is helping each other as much as they can with food and the like. For example, there are 270 flukas here, however only 20 fluka owners are left in Tyre, who who help look after the other owners' flukas in exchange for an income. "Everyone is looking after each other whichever way they can.

"Like Gaza, they have now been forbidden to fish in their own waters. In fact from about eight months ago, Sekmani said they've been witnessing remnants of flukas from Gaza arriving on Lebanses shores. "Gaza is destroyed."

As we spoke, the sound of a war plane can be heard. Jokingly Sekmani said, "lets see if your face is a blessing to us or not."
