We know from what has been happening in Gaza for over a year that the Israeli army has deliberately and with complete impunity continue to target medical staff, paramedics and civil defense volunteers.

I attended the funeral of paramedics and civil defense volunteers in Tyre where Israeli warplanes targeted the town of Deir Qanoun Ras Al-Ain in the Tyre district, indiscriminately killing 14 men as they worked to save the living and retrieve the remains of the dead.

I hid behind my lens, tears streamed down my face uncontrollably as I watched family members of the martyrs, their pain and despair. Some of these men were young men, their lives only just beginning. The tears of their brothers, mothers, fathers, sisters, wives ... I witnessed their sorrow. I took in the sorrow of paramedics and civil defense personnel a they farewelled their colleagues.

This isn't an isolated "incident". Days after, a deliberate attack on a emergency response centre near Baalbek murdered 14 rescue workers.

The bodies of these men often are not identifiable, leaving only body parts for DNA testing and burial.

Targeting medical staff and rescue teams is a war crime.
