In Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression—one of the hottest places on Earth—families endure a brutal convergence of climate disaster and man-made crisis. Between Flood and Furnace captures life on a knife-edge: floods have uprooted tens of thousands, while drought scorches the land, decimating livestock and deepening hunger.

This series follows communities navigating mirages of hope—rebuilding after each loss, walking miles for vanishing water, and surviving amid shifting conflict lines. Through searing heat and floodwaters, their resilience holds. The crisis may feel distant, but it is entirely man-made—and dangerously close.
