Extent of floods in Bentiu town. The floods started in 2021 and has not begun to subside until very recently where the water level is finally showing signs of subsiding. The floods originated from dam release in other parts of Africa into the Nile. This is the second time in over 60 years when floods have impacted this part of South Sudan in such a severe manner, completely changing livelihoods, submerging housing and other civlian structures. It has been impossbile for the town to rebuild since flood waters have not subsided though some attempt by some villagers to return and rebuild are visible.
